Making Your Baby Bedding Crib Sets Last Even Longer

For many new parents, one of the biggest changes in their life after bringing home a baby is the amount of time that is spent doing laundry. When you have an infant in your home, it may be necessary to wash their baby bedding crib sets almost every day, in addition to all their clothing, their cloth diapers if you are using them, and bibs and napkins. Most do not have it in their budget to replace sheets too regularly, so it is important to find cute sheets that will hold up well against this much abuse. There are things that you can do, both when choosing your sheets and when washing them, that can ensure that they will last for the entire time that your son or daughter is in their crib.

The first key to making sheets last even longer is as simple as buying the right sheets. Though many of the cutest sets are those that are adorned with popular characters, these tend not to be as well made as sheets that are made by dedicated bedding companies. If you are looking for sheets in a fun pattern, make sure that you feel the quality of the fabric before making your purchase. Often, these sheets will be both thin and rough and will only get more so as they are washed. Also, the characters that are decorating the sheets may be screen printed on. After just a few loads of laundry, they may begin to fade quite noticeably, as will the main color of the sheet.

Another way to extend the life of your sheets is by cleaning them only when necessary. There is no need to clean sheets both before and after they are put into storage, as long as they are stored in a clean, dry area. When a small stain appears on a clean sheet, do not put the entire sheet back into the wash. Instead, use a topical stain remover to clean the affected area. This will be more effective at getting the stain off your sheets, as well as significantly reducing the amount of wear to which they are subject.

Always have a few spare pairs of sheet. This way, you can deal with stains as soon as they appear, and you will not be using the same sheets in too heavy rotation. In addition to regularly spot checking your baby’s bedding for stains, keep an eye out for signs of tearing on the seams. If they are left unattended, they will quickly grow to a point where they cannot be fixed.
